A Letter from the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry "Never in REFP's 40 year history have we been given a donation like yours. ... .........Thank you very much for honoring what we do in such a special way." The Richmond Yacht Club is thinking locally for its annual charity regatta Aug. 21-22. Where past regattas have benefitted the Stanford Medical Center, the recipients this year are the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry, Rubicon Programs, YES (Youth Enrichment Strategies) and the Bay Area Rescue Mission. "Exporting Richmond charity dollars and sending them to Palo Alto makes no sense," said regatta Chairman Scott Gordon. "We think we should raise the money ourselves and keep it local." Organizers of the annual "party with a conscience" hope to raise $50,000 from members, businesses and regatta entries for the four organizations.

"If you live in Richmond, if you work in Richmond, you care about Richmond and you owe it to yourself," says an announcement of an Aug. 20 "Taste of Richmond" party. The cost is $50 a head, and because everything is donated, all of that will go to the nonprofits. YES Families visit the Red Oak VictoryRICHMOND RIVIERA REGATTA HOSTS A DAY OUTING WITH CHILDREN
AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM THE “YES” ORGANIZATION
Members of the Richmond Riviera Regatta committee hosted a day outing for YES kids and their parents to tour the SS Red Oak Victory ship as part of our commitment to “give where we live”. It was a great day in which to take pride in the rich heritage and history of the ship building years of World War 11 and how hard Richmonders worked to build our state and defend our country. Members of the group enjoyed box lunches from Angelo’s Delicatessen in Richmond on the deck of the ship. The Kaiser Shipyards built 747 ships for the war effort, an achievement commemorated in Richmond’s own Rosie the Riveter National Historical Park. Built in 1944 at Richmond's Kaiser Shipyards, the Red Oak served in three wars and the Merchant Marine before returning to Richmond. It was a pleasure to host YES and give these young Richmonders and their parents a look at a part of Richmond's history. View the SLIDESHOW: {besps}/yes_red_oak{/besps} |
