"Give where you live" The Richmond Riviera Regatta

This year, the members of the Richmond Yacht Club have made a commitment to give back to our community.

We want to help build a future for our youth and the people of Richmond and we are asking for your support.  The Richmond Riviera Regatta is a chance to “give where we live”.  We have not lost sight of the fact that our community needs assistance and though our lives may be difficult in this economy, there are others less fortunate than us.

Sailors on the San Francisco Bay have long recognized Richmond’s location on the Bay as a real jewel.  This regatta promises spectacular weather, the very best sailing courses from an experienced race committee; and everyone knows the Richmond Yacht Club throws the best regatta parties on the bay.  Join us for a “Party with a Conscience.”  August 21-22, 2010 We’ll have a rocking band, warm sun on the docks and deck, great food, silent auctions, sponsorship events and awards ceremonies that will make this regatta a memorable event.

Most people are only aware of the troubles of Richmond, but that’s not the city we know. From its inception as an oil and railroad town, through the shipbuilding years of World War II, and right up to today, the people of Richmond have worked hard to build our state and defend our country.

The Kaiser Shipyards built 747 ships for the war effort, an achievement commemorated in Richmond’s own “Rosie the Riveter National Historical Park.” Richmond is a hub in California’s transportation network with a major rail yard, refinery and California’s third largest port, behind only Long Beach and Los Angeles.

The Richmond Yacht Club is proud of its city’s achievements and historic past.  We are committed to helping build a bright future by supporting these organizations in our community, which give people the tools to build a better future for themselves and their families.  The regatta team has spent extensive effort vetting the charities that will benefit from our proceeds.  The following have been selected:

altBay Area Rescue Mission:  For more than forty years, the Bay Area Rescue Mission, a Christian organization, has been changing lives for a brighter tomorrow through emergency shelter, meals, recovery programs, spiritual counseling, education, job skills training, transitional services, youth intervention, food pantry, resource distribution, and mobile outreach.

altYES – Youth Enrichment Strategies:  Youth Enrichment Strategies (YES) provides children and families access to experiences in the natural environment – opportunities that can ignite the imagination, build self-confidence and enhance social skills. Educators, parents, and camp counselors observe that early exposure to an array of enriching experiences create a child’s sense of possibilities and provide the foundation for success.

altRubicon Programs: Since 1973, Rubicon has built and operated affordable housing and provided employment, job training, mental health, and other supportive services to individuals who have disabilities, are homeless, or are otherwise economically disadvantaged.

alt

Richmond Emergency Food Pantry: A 100% volunteer 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Volunteers donate more than 365 hours each month. The Pantry provides food to approximately 20,000 individuals annually. The majority of clients are low-income families with children.

We value your participation. Help us help others.

A great regatta has a great party, and the RRR is going to lead the pack!

Saturday night will be the regatta party, and it will be classic. The best regatta parties on the Bay have been at Richmond Yacht Club for many years, where they know how it's done.

The Richmond Riviera Regatta will feature great food at the dinner, drinks served with panache by Norm and Olivia, and the rockinest band on the bay, Fast Times.
