How we helped

Last year the Richmond Riviera Fund raised almost $27,000 for local Richmond Charities.

Here is how these funds made a difference in our community:

Youth Enrichment Strategies:

The monies provided by the RRF last year allowed YES to send nearly 70 youth and family members from the Iron Triangle and North Richmond to Family Camp. Here they had the opportunity to bond with their families and community through a weekend in the redwoods. For many family members, it was the first time they had experienced camping. For others, it was the only vacation they had during the year. At camp, participants had a chance to ride a zipline, climb a climbing wall, make beautiful music, and create a nature-themed art project with their family. They also went on nature hikes, cooked smores over a campfire, and learned about parenting skills and healthy eating in the adult workshop. Here are a few quotes from the parents/caregivers:

  • [The thing I enjoyed most about Family Camp was] meeting new people because we made new friends.”

  • [The thing I enjoyed most about Family Camp was] being in nature. It is very sad that we can’t have it as close when we’re in the city.”

  • I enjoyed listening to the river during the tranquility of the night. It relaxed us and made us appreciate nature so much more.”

  • I was fascinated by the adult workshop topic. Sgt. Alvarez gave us ways to recognize when our children might be using drugs or involved in gangs and how to control their behaviors.”

  • The adult workshop taught me that we don’t control our kids and that it’s important to say I love you to them.”

  • We notice that we spend more time together as a family after Family Camp.”

  • I would send my children to summer camp because I feel safe that they would be well taken care of by the YES and camp staff.”

Bay Area Rescue Mission:

Last year’s donation from the Richmond Riviera Fund made a big difference in the lives of 12 people from Richmond!

Imagine, for a moment, how much it would mean to you if …

Your son or daughter; your father or mother, were homeless.

With no place they could go – no one who could offer them a meal or a safe warm bed for the night.

How much would it be worth to you just to know that they were receiving the help they need for a day,

for a week, or for a month?

Last year’s compassionate and generous gift from the Richmond Yacht Club made it possible

for 12 homeless and desperately men, women or children to receive meals, shelter and care for 100 days!

($5.42 per day per person was all it took – but, Oh the Difference it Made!)

Richmond Food Pantry:

Your donation to the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry truly helped us provide food for the 14 % increase in low income families requesting food between June 2010 and June 2011. When the FEMA funds were delayed, these monies were instrumental in bridging the gap for us! Thank you for honoring the work we do in such a supportive way."
